Door jamb extension from 4.5" to 6.5"

I have some interior pre-hung doors where the jambs are 4.5 in wide. To the the walls where I need to hang a door are 2x6 framed so with drywall the jamb needs to be 6.5 in wide. I am wondering what the correct way is to attach the jamb extensions. I can cut the jambs required to size Should the be nailed together, glued and nailed. 3in brads/finish nails enough? Actually my nailer can only handle 2.5in brads. I am guessing they should have a 1/8in reveal?
Any pointers/guidance would be appreciated.
Ian

Continuing to read up on this. I am guessing 3in finish screws and glue might be best?
