hang temporary door
anyone know of a way to hang some sort of temp door between bedrooms- but there is no "header wall" above the opening so to speak. So something like a hanging barn door i don't think will work. It would have to be fastened on the wall next to it with some type of track (but i am unable to find anything)
Any suggestions without framing a whole door in?

Do you have photos you can post?
What kind of door are you trying to mount?
It doesn't sound that difficult so I'm having a hard time understanding what the trouble is. I'd just mount the door's hinges to the stud at the edge of the opening.

Do you know which way your ceiling joists run? Parallel to the wall or perpendicular? Is there an attic above the room, or another floor? What is the width and height of the opening?
Have you looked at bi-fold doors?
Hanging barn door is probably an option if that is what you'd like.
Sorry for the questions, just trying to understand the project.

can't do accordion door- need somewhere to attach at the top- there is no header or wall- Just open space so the door has to attach from the side wall - Or run a 2x4 across the opening somehow and then attach barn door

I'm not understanding why you can't attach a door to the walls that are there? You seem to be hung up on barn doors and headers. Stick in a pre-hung door and only attach it on the sides. That's how most are installed anyhow. Anything at the top is just for holding molding in place.

my apologies- I was not clear- its a rental so i do not think the landlord will allow any doors to be installed- it's for my daughters college rental- the two girls in bedrooms want some kind of privacy between the two rooms- but a regular door is not an option- I am not sure what they will allow but was trying to find the least intrusive to the walls -while still providing some barrier-

No matter what you do you have to drill some holes in the walls or ceiling attach any type of "door". Talk to your landlord.
Or you can build a free standing wall. Cover it with fabric or wallboard.
Do a GOOGLE search for "Free Standing wall or room divider"

A compression style shower/curtain rod and a curtain. Or make a panel on wheels sort of like old time blackboards that could be wheeled around. They could roll it in place in front of the door to block the view.
