Hope some one can help, our Jeld Wen french doors with blinds between them have if course stopped working. Our problem is that the magnet has come apart from the actual part that holds the magnet and is stuck in the corner. We can’t find a magnet strong enough to pull the magnet out of the corner. Is there away to take the glass out? The doors don’t have the frame where it’s easy to get the glass out please help as the manf. Hasn’t been
Can't tell much from extreme closeups, but in all cases when you have blinds or magnets between the glass, there is no way to get to or repair the parts between the glass. The glass must be replaced with a new insulating glass unit with blinds (obtained through the manufacturer), or, alternatively the entire door slab can be replaced. In some cases it might just be more feasible to get an entirely new door.
To get your IGU out, you remove the snap in glazing stops that surround the interior of the glass, then you cut the glazing on the exterior side of the door, while holding the glass with suction cups. Then once it is cut free, you remove it from the inside.
You would not remove the old one unless you had a new one ready and waiting to put back in.
Okay, first things first. I’m new-ish to DIY as of last year. We just purchased a home where the previous owners were DIYers, but they were so lazy we will have to go through and fix everything they touched. I’ve never owned stained doors, just painted so I’m wondering, when I re-stain them, do I have to apply the top coat/varnish to the door jam as well? Some of the doors are matte (probably bought at the store and just hung up) and some have a really high gloss but the door jams are all matte so I’m not really sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
We wanted to buy new door knobs for the bedrooms. We had replaced one when we bought the place 4 years ago. But, it was just a plain jane door knob with a lock on the inside.
We wanted to put a key pad door knob on the office. So, we bought one & when I went to install it, the hole in the door was smaller than the part that slides into the hole. I'm thinking... WTH! I have replaced a bunch of door knobs including a couple of key pad types. Wait a minute... there are different size door holes??? What? Why? And how do I know what the different sizes of door knobs/locks there are &/or to buy for various doors?
Obviously, this is a cheap hollow core interior door.
I have always just went to the hardware store & or big box store & chose the style & color I want, bought them & installed. Have I just been lucky? I mean the plain jane one I bought at the big box store fit the other bedroom interior door, but this key pad one we bought wont fit the same type door just across the hall.
What do I need to know?
