I have one Pella Designer series casement window that does not close tightly at the bottom. It is a good seal at the top, but has a pretty big gap at the bottom. I noticed it this winter when it was really cold outside. I am attaching two pictures of this gap. The pictures show the gap with the rope caulk I put in the gap to stop the cold air from coming in. Do any of you know if there is a way to adjust how tightly the window closes at the bottom. I have looked it over really well now that it has warmed up and cannot find any way to adjust this. Everything on the sill and around the closure hardware is clean; so, it isn't debris stopping this from closing the same at the bottom as it does at the top. Thanks for any help.
No there really isn't any adjustment. The hardware is supposedly machined to be located in the correct place every time. The only thing you could do is remove the sash, remove the hinge hardware on the bottom of the sash, drill out and fill those holes with wood glue and a 1/8-3/16" dowel, cut those off flush once the glue is dry... Then remount the hinge hardware so that it's 1/8" closer than it was.
And this of course would void any warranty since its not performed by a Pella service tech. But you don't have much to lose... and not real tough to do. Just don't drop and lose or strip any screws.
We wanted to buy new door knobs for the bedrooms. We had replaced one when we bought the place 4 years ago. But, it was just a plain jane door knob with a lock on the inside.
We wanted to put a key pad door knob on the office. So, we bought one & when I went to install it, the hole in the door was smaller than the part that slides into the hole. I'm thinking... WTH! I have replaced a bunch of door knobs including a couple of key pad types. Wait a minute... there are different size door holes??? What? Why? And how do I know what the different sizes of door knobs/locks there are &/or to buy for various doors?
Obviously, this is a cheap hollow core interior door.
I have always just went to the hardware store & or big box store & chose the style & color I want, bought them & installed. Have I just been lucky? I mean the plain jane one I bought at the big box store fit the other bedroom interior door, but this key pad one we bought wont fit the same type door just across the hall.
What do I need to know?
So we have this door with blinds between the glass. And like many others, ours have become very hard to open up, and about half way down, the magnet becomes detached and moves freely. As many others have said online, I am able to push it back up and snap it back in place. It takes two snaps, not sure what's happening inside but the first snap is not as solid, but if I keep pushing up very hard it fully snaps back into place. However this doesn't fix the issue. It allows me to try to open the blinds again, but it always just snaps back off about half way down.
This makes it not only unable to open the blinds, but even to just tilt the slats open.
Any ideas on how to fix this? It really doesn't look like I'm able to open this glass up at all, as it's sealed. I think it's just a lost cause, but wondering anyone has dealt with this before.
