cost of new windows

Looking for rough ballpark estimate of cost for window R&R. Companies want to come inside to measure before preparing a proposal, but that's a no-go with me at this time. Not just to get an estimate. Understood that someone from top choices will need to come in eventually.

Right now I have Anderson casements. Any good quality casement would do for me, but I'd also consider double hung or other good options.

Question is how much it would cost to R&R a window about 45w x 38h. And how much to R&R a window about 95w x 60h. Very roughly.

Upper midwest location. Brands I usually see around here are Andersen, Pella, Marvin, Jeld Wen, American Craftsman, Crestline. I thought I saw Peachtree somewhere. Not sure what else.

Cost could be anywhere from $100 to $550 and up. Plus the cost of the window. Depends who you call. A local handyman can do it for less. A company man from one of the manufactures will cost more.

Was also wondering about range of cost for windows this size. Parts and labor.

Had a guy come out for a quote at my Moms house, I literally had to remove him from the house!

Nearly impossible to determine remotely - you won't let someone local come into your house so they can give you an accurate amount yet you want us to do it without even seeing the house?

Not sure what happened in Marq1's case, but I just need rough estimates of cost and window brand so that I can see if I want to pursue the project at all and narrow the field to maybe 2-3 companies. I had a guy come out to discuss a new furnace once and he just would not go. This is more of screening. Permitting them further access for preparing a working proposal is something they would have to earn.

I was hoping to get some idea of the individual cost of windows and rough cost of labor. Within a couple hundred dollars per installed window maybe. Based on the size of each window plus hourly cost or per-window cost. Or maybe just the labor and then I can research individual window companies. You would think that people who do this regularly can ballpark.

I have no time for hard sells and don't want someone in the house unnecessarily. They're not here to make enough notes to place the order with the factory. Just here to ballpark it for me and let me see if I would trust them and the brands they work with. I expect most everyone feels the same about this.

Basically you are asking the equivalent of "I want to buy a new vehicle, how much will it cost?" There is no way to reply because there is no information in your question. Figure somewhere between $150 each (total crap) and $2500 (or more) each depending on manufacturer, difficulty of install, whatever bells and whistles you want, and potential for other odds and ends costs.

Do you want wood, vinyl, fiberglass? Full tear-out or insert or just sash replacement? Dual pane or triple pane? LowE coated?

You're from Minnesota and you spelled Andersen wrong....and speaking of wrong, what's wrong with your current casements that you want to replace them? That could make a difference in what style replacement might work best for you.

Among the companies that you mention, Marvin is best, followed by Andersen. Pella depending on which lines rank from average to junk. I wouldn't use any of the other companies that you mention even if they were free.

Actually Marq's experience in not unheard of. My daughter had to throw out a window guy who I had recommended. For me he was great. For them he tried to strong arm them into a $35000 window sell.

Just make it very clear from the very beginning, before they walk in the door that you won't buy anything and you only want a quote. You can also go to a Menards, Home Depot or Lowes and get estimates.
