I am currently framing the basement at my in-laws new home. I have a question as it relates to distance between the rough door pending and the perpendicular wall. Is leaving the king/jack stud with 3" of clearance enough? I've attached a rough picture. Let's base it off 3.25" casing and a .25" reveal. I will be leaving 2" for the rough in with a prehung door. I could move it off a bit but the inches I gain there are then taken away from the closet and bathroom width if that makes sense. I'd also like to use a 32" door but could go 30".
Yes, you have it correct. 2 studs on the inside corner. The door jamb will need to be shimmed away from those double studs about 1/4" away from the studs within the rough opening, which will help move the casing away from that perpendicular wall so that you don't have to scribe it to the wall. If you want to be SURE the casing does not touch that other wall, use 2 studs and a 1x4 on that inside corner.
Basically, once 1/2" drywall is hung on that perpendicular wall, you want the inside edge of your door jamb to be 3 1/2" from that drywall.... 4" from framing. So at a minimum, the door jamb would need to start @ 3 1/4" from framing.
As always, thanks for your detailed response. I think the two studs and 1x are the way to go. I'll also do the same on the opposite side facing the other way.
This window is leaking buckets of water when we get a good rain. I've did quite a bit of research and it seems that I can certainly tackle replacing this myself.
It appears to be two windows mulled together. Should I just measure the opening, and then subtract to come up with a close or best fit for replacements, or is it better to determine the exact size of the existing windows?
In looking at the existing window, I'm not surprised there's a problem. I was able to just pull back the flashing by hand and see exposed wood. Any thoughts on finishing trim for replacements? Should I just match the existing finishing so it matches that smaller kitchen window?
Also, was this trim supposed to have been silicone caulked or something to prevent the problems I'm having?

Hello,
I am trying to address this 1 1/4" gap that I have under both of my patio doors and figure out the best solution. I recently repainted the patio door and removed the door seal that I added many years ago and want to fix this properly.
If you look at my video, you can see that the threshold itself is approximately 6 1/4" wide and measures about 60" long - the gap from the bottom of the door to the wood threshold measures approximately 1 1/4":

If I recall, about 6 or 7 years ago (maybe even 10) there might have been a metal threshold that I removed at the time - I think since it looked old, I just removed it for some foolish reason and then installed this under door seal (https://www.amazon.com/M-D-BUILDING-PRODUCTS-MfrPartNo-43336/dp/B00P4QHJNG?th=1). It didn't look that great and didn't look 'finished'.
I want to best figure out how to fix this gap - is it by installing some type of weather stripping, or by installing some kind of threshold which will also give the door more support in the middle of the door?
Thanks in advance!
