Sounds great, but how?
Do they unlatch starting from the exterior, like in the photo where I'm peeling it back? Should I aim for even force along the whole edge, or get one end unsnapped and work towards the other?
Are there really no videos of this process kicking around, or am I just not hitting the right keywords in my searches?
Well I'm not familiar with every window ever made... but it looks like you just pry it out like you are doing in the bottom photo, but get a pry bar in behind there to pop out the front (interior) edge. It probably snaps into a groove in front.
Wood windows are similar but the wood stops are nailed on, yours arent.
I have a older brick house. I brought 2 fiberglass entry doors. I removed the first old door and the opening had 1 inch thick and 3.5 wide wood attached to the brick. I screwed the new door into the wood and the install was a success. When I remover the 2nd door the wood attached to the brick was rotted. I installed a new piece of wood screwed into the brick but it is not setting flush against the brick. which is causing the new door not to seat properly. Should I remove the wood pieces and grind the brick to make it flush and then put back the wood and install the door or would it be best to remove the wood completely and try screwing the new door directly into the brick? Thanks in advance.
We own a house with a mixture of windows, from stock jalousie, sash, and an odd type I was told are called panel windows - you insert a special winder that looks like a king-sized hex key, start turning clockwise, and the horizontal window panels start hinging outwards and up.
One of the hinges has broken and needs replacing. Given that the house was built in 1951, the hinges are proving a problem to source - I've hunted all round the place trying to find some, even going through antique stores. I've attached a picture - does anyone have an idea where I could source any? It's either that, or I may have to try and get someone locally to fabricate one for me.
Also, one the jalousie openers seems to have shredded its gearing. The whole window seems to be locked tight, and it seems someone applied too much force at one point and broke the opener. Firstly, is there somewhere I can source one of these openers, and two, can someone suggest a way to loosen up the whole mechanism? I tried spraying WD40 up and down but it didn't do anything.
Thanks in advance
