Opinions on windows

Long Island New York. Desperately need windows replaced and have looked at Simonton, Anderson renewal and this weekend will look at Tri-State. I don't have a money tree in the back yard (but that's a post for another forum, lol). Am seriously considering the Simonton. Any advice? Pros/ Cons?

If money is tight, I would rule out Andersen - they're good but I don't know that they're a good value, as they are expensive. I've been a Marvin fan for decades.

contractor forgot to caulk window?

6 fit kitchen window with one solid pane and 2 horizontal sliders installed about 20 years ago. today i'm getting new countertops and a new window ledge (with wings!) . upon taking out the formica and wood at the kitchen window, they notice they can see outside from the inside. they also notice some moisture inside then he went out side and said no one caulked under the window. its amazing i never notice this really but i also find it hard to believe a pro installer would forget to caulk between the permastone and the window. so i wanted to come here and ask if i should caulk that or not. its a huge gap obviously. i assume thats a weep hole there in the pic and i know not to caulk there but i guess that dark bead of caulk under it should be caulked. correct? An admittedly trivial question, but how to use 7th screw on 6 hole hinge?

Admittedly it's a trivial question. But it irks me that the manufacturer / retailer don't tell you the answer. Bought some hinges for interior doors in the house. They each came with 7 screws. 6 shorter and all the same length. the 7th is longer. What to do with the 7th? I figure you can use that if you are hanging a heavy door to help keep the hinge from pulling out? You'd put the longer one in the top hole in the door frame? But the instructions don't mention the 7th. calling their customer disservice number, it answers 'thanks for calling lowes' so it's their private brand? And they will call me back in 26 to 49 minutes 'cause the que is long. I bet the person will have no clue. Going to the lowes website and searching on the 3 different numbers on the bag get nothing found. 1) Am I right about how to use the long screw? 2) How do you move past stupid things like this - you buy something and questions can't get answered?
