5” entry door jamb with 4 9/16” door
My front door, strangely, has a 5” jamb and the doors I’m looking at are 4 9/16”.
My first question is how is this possible with 2x4 studs? I don’t even think my drywall is 1/2 (May be a smaller odd size). Anyone run into this? My previous door purchase invoice confirms the 5” measurement as it was a custom order.
Next question is if I get a 4 9/16” door what are my options to install? Would filling the 7/16” gap be the only option?
Thanks!

5 1/8 and 5 1/4 jambs on exterior doors are fairly common, as are 6 9/16 for 2x6 walls. You have a few options. You can buy a door with wood jambs and add jamb extensions. You can buy a door with 2 piece adjustable jambs (these are usually metal), or you can order a door with the jamb width you need. Usually the door shop will take the next larger size and cut down the jambs, which you can do yourself if you have the skills and tools needed.

Take the brickmould off and put a 1/2" extension on the exterior side of the jamb. Then put the brickmould back on.
They probably added 1/2" of foam insulaton on top of your sheathing.

Great ideas - thanks!
I should also note I have a storm door. When I had the siding put on they trimmed out the door with aluminum flashing. To take a look I’ll have to remove the storm door unfortunately.
My driver here is to get a specific door to match my new garage door (on order).
I will post some pics when I get to a computer as it’s not working on my phone.

To replace the door you need to first remove the storm door and the brickmould plus any cladding they put over the brickmould.
