Help mounting retractable screen

I'm trying to mount this retractable screen to the outermost part of the door frame, as marked in the photo. I hoped there was a wood frame beneath the metal but there is not, it's just air behind it and there's not much for the screw to grab onto.
What are my options for mounting the main part of the screen here?

Use longer screws (like 2") and you will likely hit something solid.

If there is nothing behind that area it's probably not a good place to mount your screen. Even with longer screws you may end up crushing the trim when you tighten the screws.

When I installed a storm door at my house there was no suitable place to mount it so I had to modify the existing door's trim and put something in place that could support a door.
