Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. My cellar door is old and made of wood. We need to replace the door and plan on taking the economical way out and replacing it with wood (we plan on selling our city home and feel that due to the current property value of our home a steel door is not an option). What do I need to seal the door with in order to water proof it? Is there anything else we should know that would benefit us? Your input is greatly appreciated.

Hi Daiana,Need a little more information. Is this a pre-hung door that you access the celler from the outside.Or is it a Bilco door, the kind you pull up from the ground? If its a Bilco door, just be sure its sealed properly and if your going to paint it use a good exterior primer and finish coat.If your not going to paint it put on a couple coats of poly.

Beach51, thanks for responding. The door is the kind you pull up from the ground (Bilco door type). You answered my question regarding sealing it and the type of exterior paints I would need. Thank you.
