Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help me out with some info about replacing doorknobs in my house. My doors currently have doorknobs that use a 1 3/4 inch hole for the rotating mechanism. I purchased doorknobs that would require me to cut out a bigger hole than that. I'm wondering if anybody makes doorknobs that will fit the existing holes in the doors. I'm guessing my existing doorknobs are 45-50 years old. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Clamp a board over the hole to the outside of the door. Put a drill bit which is long enough to grab the wood from the inside in the hole saw. Drill half way throught the door. Come back through the other side. Remove the waiste of wood from the board which was clamped to the door and continue through or check out the Kwik set at HD which has a knob to fit the 1 3/4. The knobs fit though the door needed slight chissel mark just above and below the hole to fit flush........
