Post Window specs to look for

I'm want to replace two side by side wooden double-hung windows with a plain, non-opening, glass picture window. What kind of specs do I look for when shopping - or what do you recommend? It will overlook my covered front porch, facing southeast, in South Carolina.

First off, are these windows the only source of ventilation for the room? If so, you can't replace them with a picture window. Further, is this a bedroom? If so, you need to provide emergency egress from the room. A picture window is not the best way to do that. Answer those 2 questions, and we will go from there.

Well, the windows are in my small living room (with one other window and the front door) which is open to the dining room (with 2 windows) and the kitchen (with one window and the back door).

Good questions - I hadn't thought about possible restrictions to my desire for change!
