Unhappy What is a good replacement window?

I am in the market for replacement windows for my home. The home is block construction, with crank out metal frame windows. I have talked to a few window companies, and have gotten the " Our windows are the best" from each one. My question is, what will be better? a vinyl double pane window, or a alunimum frame double pane one? Also, how good in amlin windows? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well of course each company has the "best" window ! You don't think they'd walk in and say "well, ours are ALMOST as good as the other guys "

Forget the sales hype.

I personally like an all vinyl window, double pane with LowE + double strength glass and a full screen. Avoid the single hung type where only one sash moves ( cleaning them is a pain).

The installation is going to be slightly more costly in your case due to the type of house construction and the existing metal windows, but not too significant. You should be able to get the windows installed for about $250-$300/window if you shop well.
