Dog Scratches on Barn Board

Today I woke up to find my large dog had been clawing at the door to the garage during the night. It is made out of barn board, so it has a rough finish. Should I just sand it down and restain it, or is there some way to repair the scrated spots?

Repairing dog scratches in wood

Sanding a rough texture may make the affected area more noticeable. If damage is not too severe, perhaps just touching up with stain would make the scratches less noticeable. Or, perhaps filling deep gouges with wood putty and touching up with stain might be another option.

Painting Fiber Glass Door

I am at my wits end. A year ago I purchased a very expensive set of fiberglass doors (exterior). After a lot of looking I found a painter that said he could apply a gel stain. To make a long story short, the painter came and made a total mess of the doors and did not return the next day. He did not have the slightest idea of what he was doing and Im convinced I could have done better than he did. I refrained from calling him which was best for both of us. Another painter came and applied a regular stain over the mess, then sprayed polyureathane or some type of sealer. Now the doors are sheeding the stain and showing the white fiberlass in various areas. The doors do face the sun. My question is what do I need to do with the doors to get them back to a state where I can paint them with a regular paint (what type should I use) and what type of prep do I need to do on the doors.
