lined draperies
I am looking in vain for instructions on how to sew lined draperies. I do not need a book, just want a 1-2 page print out. I want them to be professional looking, with the 1 1/2" turn in on the inside. You can tell I am quite the sewer, so it has to be in simple terms. The lining is cut smaller than the drapery material itself, that much I know. Thanks!!

i, too, searched without finding a nice & simple instruction sheet! what i did find was a website for professionals (and amateurs) in the custom home furnishings industry. they have a community forum just like this one, but it's aimed more at professional-level projects, not the more usual quick & easy ones (which almost NEVER use lining at all!) so, if you don't get an answer here, you might post your question to them at www.chfindustry.com and see if they can help you out.
i must say - i'm impressed that you're willing and able to make your own lined draperies. the most i've ever done myself was a no-sew swag using fusable tape! i'm sure yours will look much nicer & more professional! good luck!

I have found some excellent instructions in "Simplicity's Simply the Best Home Decorating Book." This book runs 15-20 dollars should you choose to invest in it, or for 1 time use, try your local library. Don't even need to check it out, just photocopy the pertinent parts.

I found plenty of books in my local library on the subject. I've successfully made a number of lined drapes in my home after doing some reading.
You have to be able to think through a project in your head before undertaking it or you'll run into problems. I'll admit it takes a fair amount of spatial reasoning to accomplish.
Even the books aren't really thorough, but they give you an idea of what's needed to formulate your own plans.

Lining Drapes
I found a pattern fom Simplicity to make tab curtains and bought it for the directions on how to line drapery. The pattern number is 9566, Sewing Patterns for Dummies, although I am an experienced seamstress. My advice to you is to hem the lining and drapery material (separately) first and then follow the directions. I don't think that is made clear in the pattern. Also, I suggest making a test drape (small) first, using scrap or inexpensive material. I can scan the directions to you if you send me your e-mail address. PamArial Blackblack

Lined draperies
Drapery panels are sewn together to get proper width for each window, then hemmed. Then lining widths are done the same; but cut 3" more narrow & about 2" shorter...this is so lining will not show on sides or droop at bottom. Then, the drape & lining are joined down each side. The tops are finished last whether pleated or with headings.

directions for lined draperies
I'm new to this forum, but I'm looking for any help I can get on how to sew lined curtains. I'm used to making the pocket-top basic curtains. The ones I'm trying to make would be the same only with a lining.
Thank you for any help!

There are several methods--some easier than others, but the curtains don't hang as well. Twelvepole's instructions are accurate for the best "drape" for lined curtains. I've done several lined curtains, and the "best" directions I've found (with which the curtains came out usable) were in the Ultimate Curtain Book which has good summary directions which help describe the process and how to join the curtain to the lining. Neither panel is actually hemmed-it's pressed at the hem line then hand-stitched together. Of course, my current solution to this problem is to buy them custom, LOL.

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you have specific questions, you can start a new topic. There are several good books on the market you can buy that will give you complete directions or you can borrow books from the library. I can also recommend a few, if you want.
The people you are wanting the directions from are no longer members on this forum, so will not see your request.

Hi and welcome to the forum! There are many good books available with detailed instructions. I would recommend Singer's newest book "The Complete Photo Guide to Curtains And Draperies: Do-it-yourself Window Treatments" or any of the Singer Home Sewing books. You can buy it for under $10 at the link above. Your local library would also have books if you don't want to buy one.
I'm sorry, but it would be too time consuming for me to write out complete directions, however, if you follow the directions in one of these books, I'd be glad to help you if you have any questions.
