What to do? Valances in Corner Window
I am so glad to find this website! Here is my dilema:
I want to sew my own valances (I think I can do it...). I have chosen fabric but can't decide on style. I have 10 windows that I need to cover. See pictures of the windows, fabric selection and styles here http://photos.yahoo.com/remson5
(hope you can see them). They are all pretty similar.
In the family room from the right there is a door and transom which I am going to ignore, 4 windows corner and one single. There is 4 inches between each window and in the corner. Across from these windows in the eating area is a set of 2 windows also with 4 in between. The kitchen window already has something on it which I will remove. I will put a valance on the top but also side panels to draw as I get sun in that window. There are single windows in the hallway and laundry which I might as well do also! Do all the swags need to be the same size (length and width) on all windows? The tricky part is the corner. What can I use to mount them? Can I do a board mounted valance miter cut? (I would prefer a board to cut down on costs) Can I use knobs or do I need to use a rod with a corner connector? Do the windows need jabots? I will take all suggestions! Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forum!
"Do all the swags need to be the same size (length and width) on all windows?"
They should be the same length in the same room if the windows are the same size. If the windows are the same size in the other rooms, then you'd probably want them the same length, also. If the windows are different lengths, then you may want/need different lengths, but they should all be mounted at the same height, if possible. The widths will depend on the width of the window. The swag size will need to be adjusted to fit each window or you will need more or less of them depending on the size.

You can do a board, knobs or a rod. This is strickly a matter of preference and you'd want to treat all the windows in the room the same. You don't have to miter the boards (unless you want to). You can have one board come to the corner, then just butt up the other board next to it (easier). You will need to do mock ups of your valance since deductions need to be made at the corner.
"Do the windows need jabots?"
Since people use different terms to describe different things, I just want to make sure we're talking the same thing. A jabot is the double cascade or tail that is sometimes used between regular swags. Is this what you're referring to? If so, sometimes yes and sometimes no. They may be needed to cover up swags that are butted together, but otherwise no, unless you want/like the look.
If you have more questions, ask away.
