extra drapery hooks on traverse rod

When changing the living room draperies for my mother I noticed that the traverse rod had many extra drapery hook holders. The rod is about 40 years old. How do I go about removing some of the extra holders? Thanks

Try turning the carriers sideways to see if they slip out. Some rods have a gap toward the end of the rod where extra carriers can be slipped out. Some rods have a stop mechanism on the underside of the end of the rod that can be depressed in order to slip out extra carriers. Most folks leave the unused carriers at the end of the rod. At least they know where spare carriers are in the event that one breaks.
