Making Headboard and Cornice Box
I have been thinking about doing this for years, and i feel i just may get to this project this winter.
I found a DIY link to making padded cornices out of Foam Insulation Board... looks simple enough. And would do the headboard in the same manner. [and have to figure out how to attach it to the wall.]
The main question I have is... where my bed sits, between two windows... the width of the bed is exactly the width of the space between said windows. So the headboard will come to the edges of the windows on each side.... I just dont know if that would look stupid or not.
I plan to leave the walls the same color. I'm going to use the curtain panels to make the headboard and cornice boxes, and go with new Cream colored panels [looking at the black out / insulated ones, probably pocket rod type] I also plan to pull back the curtains in the same manner, to the sides, away from the bed.
here is another image....
any input or pointers would be great.
TIA,
TCS

It doesn't look like there's enough wall space to mount a headboard to the wall. If it extends into the windows, no, it won't look right. Can't you mount it to the bed instead? Then you can pull it out a couple of inches and it'll look OK.
If you're hanging just one panel at each window, it should cover the full width at the top, not halfway the way it is now.

thanks shadie...
i was thinking there wasn't enough room. Bummer as i like the bed where it is... but i can move it to the north wall where a dresser is.
as for the curtains... there are 2 panels on each window and currently no valance ... I just manually close them daily and they hang straight down.

Attaching cornice to wall
I've begun assembling the foam cornices... according to the directions, it just says to
How to Make a Fabric-Covered Window Cornice : How-To : DIY Network
then slip the top of the foam cornice over the brackets.
Does it just "rest" there? I wouldn't think this would be too secure. Any other way to attach it to the wall?
I'm thinking velcro - but not sure about the wall when i want/need to remove it.

I really don't know much about foam cornices, but I'm guessing they just sit there because they're light and shouldn't fall off, as long as you leave it be. Just try sitting it there and see what happens. If it were a wood cornice, you'd put a screw up thru the L bracket to attach to the cornice, but I don't think you can do this with foam.
I suppose you could try putting a piece of Velcro on the bracket and then a piece under the cornice where it would sit.

Thanks... I did think of that too. Just may head to HD to see what i can find.
I think they make velcro in 'tabs' -- that may work.

Just buy one package of sticky back velcro and cut it to size. Easy to cut. You may need some industrial adhesive to get it to stick to the bracket or you may find industrial strength velcro in HD.

Thanks Shade ....
I did find the industrial strength Velcro, and I also picked up the L barckets... Since i've never seen/worked with them before, i did not realize there are screw holes in the portion where the cornice will sit.
I currently have them resting on the bracket for the curtains, but will be adding the L brackets. Probably try one screw, where there is no padding or fabric and see how that works. If not real secure, i will be adding the velcro.
I've ordered my curtains, and now i just have to cut up my old ones to make finish off the cornice boxes.
