return air ducting

furnace
I am in the process of finishing my basement. I have a question on the cold air return vent. Right now the vent is in a location that will be a workshop, so I don't want it pulling in air that has saw dust. I was thinking of running the vent over to a wall, and venting it out into what would be the family room. My question is, where would be the optimal space? I figured it would be the largest room so the vent could draw the most air. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks

You have it right get the cold air return out in the big room down there . Keep it low at the floor. All of the heat runs down there take to the out side wall in the ceiling and blow down with them. ED
