1" vs. 4" air filters

Is the newer 4 inch furnace air filters really that much better then the standard 1 inch filter? I am replacing my furnace and wondering if the 4 inch filters will provide cleaner air. I am more worried about the quality of the air then anything else. I have been using the newer 3M 1 inch pleated filters with a MERV rating of 13 and like them very much. But will a 4 inch filter do a better job? Also, is the 4 inch filter better on the effieciency side - does it move more air, save electricity, less strain on the blower, etc?

Thumbs up

If your up to a MERV 13 .Yes for sure , Id go to the 5" pleated filters like a purolator AIR BEAR .They are good up to 2000 CFM , that will work on up to a 5 ton AC .
