professional duct cleaning worth it or not?
i have a 3br cape with a new trane forced air furnace. we also have dust everywhere. is it worth having the ducts professionally cleaned? and if so how much? i recently got a coupon for $100 off. i can only imagine how much they want for the job and is it worth it? do i also need vent screens on the return vents?

It's all depends...
My parents in thier last home when they had a new furnace installed, they had it done.. They are glad they did.
Over the years. Dad has done alot of work like sheetrocking, wood burning, and what not over the years. So there was alot of dust involved with that.
They had it cleaned, and I just happend to stop by the house when they were just getting done with it.. I saw the dust in the system. WOW! The house was a two story home too.
WIth that done, and a better filter for mom, she said she is able to breath better too.
My home, just a simple set up, I was able to just go down my duct with a air hose with pressure, I turn my blower on the highest CFM that it could run, and did it come out dirty.. The house is 36 years old, I had to change the filter twice. The old furnace hardly moved any air, so lot of dust did settle over the years.
If you have a good air movment, and the ducts are clean, then thiere is no need.

I honestly don't know what my parents paid for.. I think it was part of a package when they had the new furnace and A/C installed.
Call and find out from the company that sent you the coupon.

Dont spend the money for it . It dont help any in the long run. You say new furnace thats in and running so they had to knock some dust lose in the duct. If you start useing a good pleated filter with a MERV 5 on it . Put a new one in ever 30 days for sure it will start to stop this dust. If you want there is a filter spray coat that you can put on the intake side of the filter that will help. check out.

Down here they are cleaning the ducts up to 5 vents air handler drain pan brush and vac/coil sanitizing wash & degrease vents and registers clean the drain line . Cost $89.00 Dont that tell you something, Id say dont go for it.
