Question mixed opinions on ductwork?

I have a 1300 square foot house with finished basement. I have an old 30+ year old gas furnace. It heats the house fine. My ductwork is 4" going to the registers off a 8" by 14" trunk. I Have been told by some professionals that I need all new ductwork before they will install a new furnace, others have said they can install a new furnace for me with existing ductwork. Why is the size of the ductwork so important or will a new furnace do as good or better than the old one?

4" will NOT work w/ new system..

Blowers on new system are stronger.. if you don't move that air out of the furnace, the heat exchanger will over heat, and shorten the life.

also if you use A/C the coil may freeze.

Most home now use 6" pipe.
