please help me install this air filter

Greetings,

I am trying to install a FC200E1037 Media air filter in a Honeywell Electronic air cleaner case. It is the correct size, and EXACtly the same size as an FC100A1037 filter that my heating co. charged me $100 to put in the slot.

The problem I encounter is that there is a little round metal protrusion from the left side inside the metal casing, that prevents me pushing the air cleaner into the case. This is extremely mystifying and exasperating because an identically sized filter just came out of that slot, and I pulled it out and put it back in several times with no problem!

Before you ask, please let me assure you that this filter is EXACTLY the same size as the one that came out, I compared them side by side. And yes, i have the arrows pointing the right direction.

What the heck is up with this? How do i get the filter past that circluar metal piece that sticks out (about a half inch) ? It appears to be welded on and not removeable. Obviously it was there when the other filter was, so I am completely mystified..

PLEASE HELP!!!
thank you,
N. Jacobs
