Qs ABOUT OLD HEATING DUCTS

Im having some heating ducts[ feeding top floor] removed because of asbestos concerns.
The house built 1938 is two storeys ,walls are plaster and I wonder if anyone knows if the ducts are straped or fasten to the house in the run inside the walls for if they are not it may make the removal easier
Since the top floor is cold im thinking of replacing with bigger ducts,is this a good idea?
Once the old ducts are removed is installing the new ones a DY proyect?
Thanks a lot
