Air Return--help

Finishing my basement. Can I drywall the ceiling and inclose the cold air return? Not sure exactly how that works. The return pulls air from the vent in the floor into the return in the basement, but does it also pull air from the basement, or am I okay to enclose the vent??

You can enclose the duct, but not the opening where the air is entering the return.

Wink

That air from the vent in the floor has to be in duct, pipe ,or like panning a joist. So that air can get back to the furnace cold air return.
