Hello,
I have a washroom in my basement right underneath an 8x8 trunk line. The ceiling is way too low. I really want to raise it, can put time in, but don't have a lot of $$.
Should I just move the duct over a bit, or should I make a 4x18 duct? Could someone direct me to information on how I might begin and what I'll need?
I have:
um...
tin snips.

You would have to use pre-fab duct and it is only available in a few sizes that would do the job for you. 3 1/4X14 would cover you. You would also need transitions from 8X8 to 3 1/4X14 which I don't think you will find. You could try to put an 8" round start collar in an 8X8 end cap and get a 3 1/4X14 to 8" round transition for each end. It really isn't as easy as it sounds and if you do something that reduces duct size or adds a lot of resistance to flow, you will know it right away in the area served by that duct.
