duct work hidden in drop ceiling predicament

I recently had to tear out my finished basement with a drop ceiling due to a major flooding problem. It included ripping out the drop ceiling that was hiding the duct work. The drop ceiling made it feel like a dungeon. I am trying to avoid having to put another one in.

The problem is... the duct work is preventing me from going any higher. Is it possible to re-route the duct work from the middle of the room to the walls or is there "flat" duct work instead of the round duct work that would be sufficient. Will that affect the flow?

It's just one section about 15' in length.

Any guidance or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

dferrari, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
I am not an expert on ductwork but I would suggest contacting a heating/sheetmetal company and ask what can be done. I have seen ducts in different shapes and what you have may have been the easiest to run when it was installed. You may be able to have a transition piece made and continue from there with a duct that will go up in your joists. Good luck.
