Insulating Around Duct Work

I'm finishing my basement & we have framed around my duct work with 2x4 studs 16 inch on center. I'm going to drywall around the duct work. My question is can i put r-13 insulation in the 16 inch on center studs or should i just leave it empty & drywall over the studs.

Insulation in your basement ceiling and around ductwork will help with noise reduction between the floors.

That's why i want to install. My main question is will there be any problems with the insulation directly below the duct work.

No problems at all. A good idea.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. One thing to remenber, if you have potlights in the ceiling, do not place the insulation any closer than 3".

Cold air and floors

We live in a 40 year old home we bought 4 years ago. The old boy that originally lived here was a gadget master. Theres all kinds of valves, switches, guages etc through out our home right down to the phone jacks in the sub basement , to the nite lites in the heating vents. How would I begin to find out what all these things do or what they are for ?? His daughter has no clue as we purchased the home from her and is a friend of ours. Also, can i insulate my floors from underneath ??? The big round ducts have no insulation around them, What can I wrap them with as to increase efficiency 0f our hvac. Any info would be helpful, Thanks, Bruce

What are potlights, or should I ask?
