1930's gas stove [exhaust hood venting]

we own a duplex in san francisco and want to our remodel our kitching, which is in the upstairs unit.
part of our remodel is removing a vent that runs through both floor to the roof that the old
okeefe and merritt stove have a vent from the over connected. i told the tenant that i will be
getting them a new stove and they got mad because they like the old stove. is there any
conversion to make the vent unnecessary like on a new stove?

thanks

ron
