Air Return too Close to Heat Vent?
Can you put a cold air return at the bottom of a wall in close proximity to a heat vent in the ceiling? How close is too close? I have been told conflicting answers on this question from two different reliable heating and air professionals. I would tend to believe it isn’t good to have them too close but I am not an expert nor do I have any idea what a reasonable distance apart would be either. Any help would be appreciated.

Idealy is to have them across from each other in the room. If they are too close, the air from the supply will go right down to the return.. You kinda want it to work it's way across the room.

With Jay :Heat register near the outside wall and the cold air on a inside wall. But its all in what you have to work with.
Heat vent in the ceiling. Ok BUT what kind ?what way can it blow? what is the throw? what is the spread?what is the cfm at it?.
So if they have to go near each other. Then there is a lot of other ways to work it out.
