Question I need a larger floor register

Maybe someone here can help me. After tiling my floor , the gap for the floor register was made too big. I was wondering if you can buy floor registers that are 4 X 13 or 4X14. All I could find at the box stores is 3X12 and 4X12. If not I guess I'll have to fix it the hard way.

Wink

Might try Hart&Cooley on line they make all kinds and do have a 4X 14 floor register. Do you have a Johnstone Supply there by you??? They have them. Or any Heat & AC supply house

Red face larger floor register

Thanks. I'm in Canada and hd doesn't have much at all. I guess I will have to go to a Heat and AC company. At least now I know I can find one...hopefully.

There's nothing there in a 3"x12". Home Depot only sells 4"x12", 3"x10" and 2.25"x12". Heating supply stores carry the same sizes.

Must be a Canadian problem, I also need a 3"x12" because that's the size of the heating duct which I need the vent to fit into and I want the top (the part that shows) to fully cover the hole rather than leaving a gap.

I tried a 2.25"x12" which fits perfectly lengthwise but it is too skinny so it doesn't cover the entire hole in the floor. 4"x12" is too fat and won't fit in the hole. I could spend an afternoon widening the hole and buying a new duct and installing it but there really should be a place to go to just buy a floor register that fits and put it in the hole and walk away.

I wonder what it would take for a store to sell the appropriately sized floor register for the same size duct vents they are selling.

3 X 12 (or 3-1/4 X 12) sounds like the builder didn't install terminal boots. 3-1/4 X 12 is a duct size, albeit a strange size. 3-1/4 X 14 is standard duct size.

That's exactly the size i need. 3.25"x11.75" would fit perfectly into the vent. The visible portion would have larger dimensions, like 4"x13" or 14" so the lip would be able to grab onto the floor.

You're right, the installer must have used a boot you're supposed to use for some other purpose.

I just searched Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Rona, and Lowe's and there is not a lot of variety out there. None of them have the size I'm looking for. Lowe's is only selling 2 sizes.
