Question Buying a HEAT PUMP SYSTEM, wholesale?

I am considering purchasing a NEW 3 ton HEAT PUMP and inside unit WHOLESALE.

My present system leaked it's coolant, and has other problems so I am considering purchasing a new unit, installing the inside coil, placing the outside unit on its new pad, THEN HAVING SOMEONE HOOK UP.

Is this something that a heating person would do since I purchased the unit wholesale?

I do handyman work as my business, but have not done a HEAT PUMP in the past.

Thanks for hearing me out.

I think you will be able to get somebody to do this. You will most likely get no warranty! Also there are not a lot of companys that sell a higher seer unit. Most you can only get a builder grade unit.

Just changed out a HVAC system in my home - and did some "checking out" prior to getting bids and granting a contract. I think you'll find that most HVAC companies will do the work you want done - but it will be spendy (I paid $700 - a discount price - just to move an existing compressor 20 feet). Check out local classified ads and Craigs list for HVAC technicians who also moonlight after hours. I found one who was considerably cheaper than any "real company".... though I would imagine his warranty might be suspect.....

I agree that you would likely be able to find someone to hook it up.
However, you should really make sure that the money you save will make it worthwhile.

I also agree that warranty could be a problem and any decent refrigeration mechanic will be fully employed at this time of year which makes all who are less that qualified come out of the woodwork.

I have one bid in as of now.

A 3-Ton American Standard. Premium-Heritage 15 seer.

$4,190.00 inside, & outside units. This is for them to do all the work.

Thanks to all for your input.

I posted that I am considering a new HEAT PUMP SYSTEM. The company that has serviced my unit for several years says the REVERSING VALVE IS LEAKING, and they want $800.00 to replace.

Any comments on such? It is easy to get to, but appears to me that some soldering would be required, plus removing and refilling the coolant. The $800.00 is the total price.

Thanks,

If it is more than 7 years old id replace! I would not spend 800 in it!

I would not get it wholesales.. I've seen other post of home owner coming back on here crying for help cuz they installing dealer messed up something, or not able to get any type of warranty support.

Get a dealer to provide the unit, and do the whole works. As air said, get a new unit. 9 years on a heat pump near it's life, and you would be able to get a higer SEER rated unit, and save more money.
