Adding insulation to existing flex duct... good idea?

My existing ductwork already came with R6 insulation, but I am thinking of wrapping around some longer duct runs with R6 fiberglass insulation, which will make them R12 insulation.

Will this help at all with reducing cooling lost? I am guessing going from R6 to R12 should reduce cooling lost by 5%, hopefully this should translate into 2F degree cooler air coming out from a distant supply register.

Or perhaps this is just a waste of money?

Waste of money! Air will be moving to fast to pick up heat unless there are holes in the insulation.
