Help! What to do with outdoor undereave vents/too large???

We have an older house (built in 1946) that we are re-doing. We have just painted the outside, and need to replace the undereave soffit vents - they currently have wire nailed from the inside...but they are impossible to get to, so we wanted to replace with covers hung from the outside. The problem is that our openings are 3.5" X 20". The standard vents are only 16" long...what do you suggest? We had a problem with birds getting in our attic before, as they just "Pushed" the wire in and made themselves at home!

We have a total of 16 vents, 4 on each side of the house. The soffit is made of wood, and we don't want to replace with continuous soffit. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Bella

Welcome to the forums!

You could staple the wire over the outside of the vent hole and then cover the edges with a 1x2 or lattice strip.
