hot stale air in stairwell.

I have recently finished my basement, which has it's own separate A/C system. Both (upstairs and downstairs) systems are running fine with the exception of the stairwell going down the basement. I think that what I need to do is install a return at at the top of the stairwell...but is this a common fix for something like this? Am I on the right track?

Thanks

Think you will need a supply to cool the air. The air can allready travel down the stairs so Don't think a return would work!

so...sucking the hot air out wouldn't really be much of a benefit?

Guess I am concerned with total air flow as well as temperature.

No you all ready half a return path down the steps. That is not working. Time to add a supply
