Adding return vents to bedrooms

I have 3 bedrooms and a bonus room upstairs. My house has 2 air conditioners. The one for upstairs has 2 return vents, each with a 14x20 filter and a 12" flexible duct going to it.

One return is in the bonus room by the thermostat. The other is in the hallway at the top of the stairs.

The problem is that my kids all sleep with their doors closed. At night the bonus room is nice and warm but the kids are freezing

I'm thinking about adding a 12"x12" return in each bedroom and running 8" duct back to the unit. I can disconnect one of the existing 12" return ducts, add a duct box, and connect the 12" and the three 8" ducts to the box.

Sound possible?

Thanks in advance,

D2.

Adding returns

The problem is that my kids all sleep with their doors closed. At night the bonus room is nice and warm but the kids are freezing .

^^Are you talking about heating or cooling cycle^^

I ASSUME > HEATING < Make sure there vents seen to adequate airflo and are open they can close on there own check their flex in attic as in not crushed or dampered at duct if the supplys are after the warm you may have loose insulation in duct work. May be a main damper in duct , may be a zoned system (as in you have two t-stats up stairs). Do the doors have a gap big enough to get your fingers under if not I would trim the door first ,unless yaw both have xtra money to spend .
But that will help except I would go 6 flex inch since heat rises you may pull to much back out.
