Rusted vent.

I have forced hot air electric heat, and the top edge of the duct in one bathroom is rusted along the upper edge where it goes into the register (grill). Does any one know of an insert or something that I could slide into the vent? O r any other suggestions? I was also wondering about tacking a strip of sheet metal around the edge.It is just the first inch or so that is rusted.
Thanks.

Sand and prime or replace it.

IMO it would be a good idea to sand, prime and paint....... but I am a painter

I would think adding a piece of metal would be easier than replacement but wouldn't covering the holes with that silver duct tape be just as good?

The tape might work, I will look into that. Painting would not be an option as part of the upper edge are rusted through. It is mostly just the top inch or so, and the rest looks good. That "aluminum foil tape" might just work.

The main reason for paint would be to stop any further rusting.
