Older Condo with square ducting needs a fan to push air up and out
Our condo has concrete walls and ceilings, the existing exhausts (2 bathrooms, 1 kitchen) are all the same - passive exhaust hooked to the building system, going straight up, no blower motors/fans anywhere in the system.
The openings are 7'' x 4'' square with a simple grill. I am looking for either a very shallow mount fan which can be installed below the opening (after removing the grille) or a very small in-line fan which could be mounted in a 4'' wide duct. There's power nearby (ceiling light) which can be pulled in to allow the fan to run when the light is on. The goal is to move bathroom and kitchen odors faster than they do with the passive system, not ventilation, which is pretty good overall. I cannot find anything suitable - any ideas?
Many thanks

Unless your building is VERY old, a passive exhaust system is very uncommon. I would bet that there is a non-functioning exhaust fan somewhere on the roof. Quite possibly a long-broken belt, or a burned out motor. You say "hooked up to the building system". What do you mean?

Thank you: I meant there's an air-shaft going up and I assume it leads to a main shaft going to the roof. From our previous condo I know we had an added fan in each room where a vent was installed, here we have none - obviously due to the size of the feeder shaft (from our unit to main).
I have started to look a small fans as used in computer CPUs, but am afraid they will not push enough air?
The building is from 1955. And yes, I will investigate if there are suction fans at the roof level; from the fact that air is hardly moving - no obstruction visible- inside our in-unit shafts, I took it there were none.
