Gas Dryer Venting

Hope this is the correct forum and thank you for the help. We are moving our dryer in a recently purchased home to a hallway closet. Previously it was vented to the crawlspace from a room. I would feel better about exhausting through the crawlspace, but that would require cutting through the foundation. What is the thought about venting through the attic out the gable side. This would appear easier with the only drawback that the exhaust would be about 8 feet from a door. Both distances are 12 feet from the hall closet.

Rise, run and turns all come into play. It's best to not go up if possible - how much rise would this entail?

The closet will only accommodate a stacked unit so it would be approximately 5 feet up before turning or 4 feet down.
