Best product to fill gap around bathroom exhaust fan?

fan the electrician put in is small than the one previously. what should be used to fill gap?

A lot depends on the size of the gap. it could be as simple as a bead of caulk or could involve flat taping and finishing with joint compound. Pics could be helpful in determining the best plan of attack.

well the electrician said to get a kind of caulking but I don't know which kind. its about a inch and half around I think.

You don't want to caulk a 1.5" gap! Can you insert pieces of drywall to fill the gap?
