Need a Temperature Difference Thermostat for Garage Vent Fan

Greetings! Newbie to this forum but veteran (victim?) of many DIY projects. I’ve searched extensively on this and come up empty so I’m hoping someone here can help me. If this has been answered and I didn’t find it I apologize and will be really happy with a link. I have a question about garage ventilation. I’m in Las Vegas so it’s hot and dry. As hot as it is here (routinely 110+ in the summer) my garage is usually 20-30 degrees hotter than outside. This is due to the water heater, hot cars radiating off heat, the way the sun hits the building, etc. This heats up the bedrooms above it causing more strain on the AC. Summer power bills here are usually ~$600/month so I’m trying to decrease this. My goal has been to get the garage to be the same temperature as the outside. I’m not shooting for cooler, just the same. To accomplish this I installed a whole house fan in the ceiling of the garage. It vents the hot garage air into the attic adjacent to the previously mentioned bedrooms and out the soffit vents. Outside air comes in through vents low on the garage walls (I expanded these). This works quite well BUT someone has to switch on the fan. I need a thermostat that will switch on the fan when the temperature difference between inside and outside reaches some point (for example 10 degrees) and then shuts it off when it falls to equal to or near the outside temp. I can manually turn off the fan for the winter and back on in the spring. Setting 2 temp probes will not be difficult. Just using a regular thermostat won’t work. If I were to set it for 100 it would run when it’s 105 inside and outside without doing any good. It also would stay off when it’s 85 outside and 98 inside when it should be running. This seems like a silly questions, but I'm wondering why metal tape is used when there is "Duct" tape... Why is that? If Duct tape wasn't invented for ducts, why call it that?Read More
