Replacing bath fan, hole too big!

So I'm looking at replacing our old bathroom fan which has a hole about 9.5 x 9.5" and I can't find a fan locally that is that same size. Best I can find is one that is 8 x 8.5". I guess that means I'll have to shim it to fit, but I'd rather not. Am I missing something here, I thought there would be more fans in standard sizes so that you can more easily switch them out??

Check the internet. U should be able to find most sizes available. Good luck.

There just is no "standard size" and most people never change the whole thing out, what's wrong with the one that's there now?
Most often you can just change motor if that's what's gone bad.

The current one is ugly, yellowed lens, too low CFM for the room, and is loud. I'd just keep it but the wife has been asking to replace it for years now.

Here's a Panasonic that is 10.5 in sq. Easier to make hole bigger.

WhisperCeilingâ„¢ Fan - Quiet, Spot Ventilation Solution, 110 CFM at Panasonic
