Install square damper

I need to install (retrofit) a rectangular damper into a rectangular duct. Duct is 15x11. I would like to use Honeywell ZD-damper, but those come in even-sizes only: 14x10, 16x12.

What are my options?

Do I need to adapt the duct to the available size? If that, do I go one size smaller, or one size bigger?

Can I add some sorts of fins on the damper to make it fit snugly?

Can I use wood or foam to fill the gaps?

What is the damper for? With the exception of fire dampers it is usually not necessary to have a complete closure.

Pushing air down toward the floor

Hello everyone, I have an issue of where hot air is not pushed down to the floors as the registers are high on the wall. As the law says, hot air rises and cold air drops. During the winter months we don't have enough heat in the house. Since the registers are higher up on the wall all the air pretty much gets suck to ceiling area. I also have the intake on the wall on top of the closet door. So it seems like air pushed out of the registers gets sucked right back in via the intake. Is there anyway i can redirect the air dowards?Read More
