Gas dryer venting?

Hi,
Iam putting a gas dryer in my basement in Mass.
What is better to use the semi rigid 4" duct or the alum rigid 4' duct?Are both acceptable in my state?
Should I connect with foil tape or clamps?I have about a 6ft run to the vent in the foundation wall.
Whats best to attach the elbow on the back of the dryer exhaust?

Any rigid or semi rigid piping. Attach with metal tape.

Adding another supply

Hello, I have a 2.5 ton heat pump system in my home. I have a foyer located between my dining room and living room, this is where the front door is located. There are 2 8" supplies for the living room and 1 8" supply for the dining. The foyer in between never had a supply put in. You can definitely feel a difference in temp in both summer and winter and can feel a slight draft. I was thinking of adding a supply and a return to the foyer to help balance out the temperature. The problem is on the outside wall is where my front door is located, and directly to the right of that is a closet, Leaving no free room along that wall except for directly in front of the door. So that would leave me either putting the register right in front of the door, or further in along the closet wall, which would put it much closer to the return. Any suggestions?Read More

Block upper level air return in winter?

I have a 1.5 story house with a 20x20x20' great room that has a giant air return on the side of the room below the thermostat and 2 supplies near the windows on the opposite side of the room. in the corner is the hallway for the 2nd level which overlooks this room and up high there is another return vent, along with one in each bedroom on that level. I think much of the warm air from the great room gets sucked away by the vent on the upper level which is visible from seating position. Would it make sense to block this during the winter and reopen in summer when cooling? I have a ceiling fan in the room but it doesn't help to divert much back down.Read More
