Wall ventilation when Replacing range hood w/ OTR microwave
Hi All,
I removed my old range hood and installing the microwave with vent instead.
I already updated my cabinets and there is no question with power but the only problem is that I have on wall vent opening where range hood was connected , but now since I am installing microwave the new vent opening is about 10 inches higher.
So I was thinking to add a duct that will go up and down . Will this work? I really don't want to build another opening.

Yes, this will work.
I would open up the wall behind the MW, do the work, and then cover the wall back up with plywood instead of drywall. Plywood will make installing the oven easier and more secure.
Your main concern is how to convert the new 3.25 x 10 rectangular duct into the existing wall cap if it's round.
If the wall cap is already rectangular, you only need 2 90° bends.

A picture of the wall opened behind the microwave would be helpful too.
