Exclamation Black Mold?

Hey, any help would be very much appreciated. What am I looking at and how can i fix it? This is in my attic. The black around these two spots has looked like this since the spring and hasn't gotten worse. I live in Comox, BC and with the rainy season around the corner I want to fix it. Thank you!

Welcome to the forums.

Doesn't look like mold but since it's darker there would appear to be water infiltration. If it is mold..... stop the water and the mold will die,

I'd get on the roof and double check the flashing around those vents. As Pete said, mold needs three things to thrive - moisture, heat and a food source. Eliminate anyone of the three and it won't grow.

Hi Zach and another welcome.
Can you identify the three pipes for me. Whatever is hiding under that attempt at insulation isn't being protected very well.

The cosmetic issue can be cleaned up but as mentioned, the moisture issue needs to be addressed to be sure the problem is gone. What does this attic have for ventilation, soffits, ridge, foof vents, or gable vents?

Are any exhaust fans blowing into this attic?

remove the moisture and the mold will not dye. It will go dormant. Its still an allergen.
