dryer vent

I had a dryer vent with the cover and flap door on my house and it would sometimes get plugged with lint and the door would stick open. I changed it for the louver type dryer vent. now one of the louvers sticks open. I was wondering what is the best type of dryer vent to use, which one has the least problems, and maybe one that even have a way to clean it out once it starts to stick open. which type do you recommend, use in your own homes? thanks

Either one but dryer vents need maintenance at least once a year. There is always lint in vent.

Insulating the supply ducts in my unfinished basement?

We just moved into a pretty big house. The basement is mostly underground and unfinished. The air handler is located almost in the middle of the basement. There are 10 round metal sections of ducting that run from the air handler, across the top of the basement ceiling and into the various rooms upstairs. These sections range from 15 feet to 24 feet. Is there anything to be gained by insulating these ducts? Will it improve the efficiency of the system? We have only lived here two months but it seems like the system runs all the time, just to keep the house at 68 degrees. We were told that the system was replaced 3 years ago, but I have no way of confirming this. The house has 2 main floors and the unfinished basement. The main floor has a large vaulted entryway with a second story double window, two large bay windows and a three panel glass french door. Basically a lot of glass. The house was built in 1991. I'm looking for ways to cut down on the heating bill. Ideas?Read More

Hey everyone, So the sound my furnace is making doesn't happen all the time. I KNOW i've heard it before but had completely forgotten about it due to it not making this sound all the time. In the video the sound had already been going for a bout a min or so before i started recording. 10 seconds after i stopped recording the sound went away and it was back to normal. The furnace ended up running another 5 times before i ended up leaving for work this morning and it sounded fine every single time. Now the big question is, whats making the sound and can i do anything to fix it? Normally i would just say screw it and call my local HVAC tech but i'm trying to avoid that right now for a few reasons and mainly money. 2017 has been a horrible year for my wife and I financially. It started earlier in the year with having to remove an $800 tree that took out my hydro stack that cost $500 fix. Followed by a month later my car died so i was forced to buy a new one (had been giving me problems off and on for a while each easily fixable except for the last problem) so a new car needed to be purchased, ka-ching$$ ka-ching$$!. Followed by a lot of dental issues with myself and my son who recently cost us $3000 to fix his teeth (bad genes in the family for cavities despite brushing and flossing everyday). So needless to say i really can NOT afford to replace this furnace or spend hundreds on a service call and parts due to us already spending all of our rainy day fund money this year. So is there anything i can do to remedy this random sound that keeps happening? cleaning? greasing? or is it signs of something going to break eventually? Please help :(, thanks guys!
