Tight return duct issue

I am trying to figure out the best way to run the return duct on my new heat pump
The old had the same size return as the air coming out .This one has a larger return trunk at base and i cant make the area it goes into home bigger..I cant cut i to the wood joist where it goes in so ill have to make a adjustment w duct.
I tried a adjustable 90 but it didnt work.
Is there a flatter trunk base that changes it from rectangle to round an is flatter or a part that directs it lower i can try?
Or any other things i could use to get unit closer to home with that bend?

It looks like you've got a serious issue there. The opening in the wall doesn't look anywhere big enough to carry the duct size thru you require. I would consider custom sized square ducting that fit the entire opening.
