Furnace flue between furnay and chimney rusted away

Hello,
I have a 10 year old Payne 80% gas furnace. When it was in stalled the contractor reused the galvanized flue that is between the furnace and the chimney from my at the time 30 year old furnace. While in the basement today I noticed that this galvanized pipe and both elbows are rusted through. So here are my questions...

1. Is this a symtoms of a larger issue or is this just an age issue?
2. How do I go about replacing this? The chimy side seems to be mortared in place?

Clogged Dryer Vent Pipe

The dryer vent pipe in my daughter's town home is most likely clogged, which is causing her dryer to shut off after a few minutes. The vent on the back of the dryer goes down through the floor across the width of the basement (about 15 feet) and out a window opening. There are 2 turns. The pipes are old and appear taped together in a few spots. I'd really like to replace it with new pipe. The basement has about 7 feet clearance. Is this a DIY project? I priced out the supplies, and it looks fairly inexpensive to do. Thanks!Read More

Radon System Blowing mold spores

My home had a radon "collection" system installed when it was constructed. It is a layer of gravel under the slab with perforated pvc pipes conecting to a single vent through the slab. It was vented outside BUT with no fan. Measured radon levels inside the house were as high as 96. I added a radon fan and exhausted it outside. It lowered the radon levels as I hoped - below 3.0 BUT The exhaust appears to be drawing mold from under the slab and exhausting it along with the radon. As soon as it was hooked up, my wife began having mold allergy symptoms when inside the house. Pretty clear. When the fan is turned off, no mold symptoms. When the fan is turned on, mold symptoms. It appears the system is blowing mold spores all over the place and they are getting in the house. Is there a filter for this? I have not found one.Read More
